Kelly Griffin had grown tired of living with roommates and reveled in having her own apartment during her senior year at Judson University in Elgin, Illinois.<\/p>\n

Kelly has Down\u2019s Syndrome and qualifies for a Medicaid benefit known as Home and Community Based Services. The program paid for a personal service worker to help her succeed at living alone.<\/p>\n

More than 3 million Illinois residents like Kelly receive health insurance and long-term care through Medicaid. The joint federal-state program covers low-income people and those with disabilities. But the Trump administration wants to cut\u00a0$1.5 trillion dollars<\/a>\u00a0in federal spending. which according to\u00a0a report released in March<\/a>\u00a0by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), won\u2019t be possible without steep cuts to Medicaid.<\/p>\n
